Revealing Word

stone, white—When we redeem ourselves from bondage to sense, we shall be sustained by the inner or spiritual food ("hidden manna"), which is understanding of Truth and which is the foundation ("a white stone") upon which we build up and develop our true Christ self.

Metaphysical Bible Dictionary

church—The true Christ church is not an outer sect, or religious denomination. First of all it is an aggregation of spiritual ideas in individual consciousness. To establish the church, or ecclesia, of God in man, a new state of consciousness must be formed. Man must gain an understanding of God as Spirit, and also must understand his own relation to Spirit.

Jonah—That prophetic state of mind which, if used without divine love, fixes man in bondage to belief in a law of cause and effect wherein error sowing cannot be redeemed or forgiven.

Peter—The spiritual faculty of faith. This disciple's name, Simon (hearing), signifying his receptivity and ability to discern Truth, was changed by Jesus to Peter, or Cephas, which is the Greek for the word rock. This represents faith in God, strong, unwavering, and enduring. This faith is a necessary foundation for the building up of spiritual consciousness, the church of Christ, in the individual.

Simon—For the general significance of Simon, see SIMEON. Strength (Andrew) is clearly related to substance (Simon), which in spirit we call faith (Peter; John 1:40, 41). "Faith is the giving substance to things hoped for" (Heb. 11:1, with marginal note). What we hope for and mentally see as a possibility in our life comes into visibility, and we call it substance.
