The Joys and Burdens of Freedom

True freedom often seems hard to come by, almost like a rare commodity. Sometimes, it brings us joy. Other times, it feels like a burden we must carry. This Sunday, we will learn more about the joys and burdens we may carry when considering our spiritual freedoms and how we can successfully alleviate any challenges we might experience in feeling truly free.

Join us for a meaningful service, beautiful music, and the opportunity to fellowship in celebration of our freedom.

Sermon Notes

Main Scripture

"If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” —John 8:31–32

Supporting Scripture

"The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, “You may freely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.” —Genesis 2:15–17

“One who is enriched with good qualities is actually said to be rich, and one who is unsatisfied in life is actually poor. A wretched person is one who cannot control his senses, whereas one who is not attached to sense gratification is a real controller. One who attaches himself to sense gratification is the opposite, a slave.” —Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 11.19.44 (Bhāgavata Purāṇa)

“Wisdom is veiled by this insatiable flame of desire which is the enemy of the wise, o son of Kunti.” —Bhāgavad Gītā 3:39

“But he who is self-disciplined, who moves among the objects of the senses with the sense freed from attachment and aversion and under his own control, he attains to ‘grace.’” —Bhāgavad Gītā 2:64

Metaphysical Interpretations (Revealing Word)

freedom – We can never know the full meaning of freedom until we abide in the Christ [C]onsciousness…Without prayer and spiritual meditation there can be no concept of spiritual freedom and, therefore, no demonstration of it.” —Charles Fillmore
