Sermon Notes

Main Scriptures

The Ascension of Jesus

50 Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and, lifting up his hands, he blessed them. 51 While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy; 53 and they were continually in the temple blessing God. (Luke 24:50–53)

The Coming of the Holy Spirit

1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. (Acts 2:1–4)

Supporting Scriptures

The Second Coming

Life in Spirit

9 But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. (Romans 8:9–10)

Dying and Rising with Christ

5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For whoever has died is freed from sin. 8 But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin, once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. (Romans 6:5–11)

Metaphysical Interpretations

4—Foundation. It can be in the form of a time of preparation or the four basic aspects of being: Spiritual, Mental, Emotional and Physical.

10—Perfect balance between masculine and feminine; allness and wholeness. Sometimes called the divine number.

40—As long as it takes. Also (4x10): A “foursquare” number suggesting the idea of a foundation for something to follow; an idea of completeness. A time of completed preparation for something to follow. May be a time of testing, trial, purification.

Bethany—wailing, lamentation, affliction; and signifies the demonstration over these conditions. Whenever we make a mental demonstration we get a certain result in mind and body. In Bethany Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, and thus overcame the sorrow, lamentation, and affliction of Mary and Martha.

Emmaus—A place in consciousness where the healing, restoring love and life and Truth of Spirit spring up and flow freely through man's being; also: Greek for “mineral springs; medicinal springs; baths.”
