UFW Update: Reopening Process
As we discussed during our town hall meeting on May 17, 2020, we are considering an outline of a reopening process depending on the development of the Covid-19 impact in our area. Currently, we are considering three phases related to this process, giving us some idea how we will come back together in the near future.
Phase 1 – Campus Reopens
Indicator: The UFW reopens for congregational gatherings including small groups.
During this phase, we are officially reopening the UFW campus for congregational gatherings on Sundays, including a limited availability to our small groups. At this point in time, the government and public health officials have clearly indicated that it is save to do so, including UFW’s leadership and board of trustees’ confidence in following the recommendations. Currently, we are aiming for a complete and inclusive opening that would allow anyone, including those deeming themselves as vulnerable and compromised, to gather. This approach may require us to stay closed for a little while longer, but it may just be worthwhile doing so.
This phase will allow groups to gather in the Wellness Center (A, B, and C) while construction work is completed around the campus. During this time, no cleaning or disinfected services are provided. Anyone meeting on UFW premises will do so at their own will and at their own risk. Groups are expected to clean up after themselves as no cleaning services are provided at this time.
Phase 2 – Construction Complete
Indicator: The various construction projects are complete to allow groups to gather.
After reaching phase 2, those groups meeting during office hours may be able to meet in the sanctuary building, depending on size and requirements. Groups meeting outside of office hours will continue using the Wellness Center (A, B, and C) until such time the security/safety measures are in place. Sunday groups will be able to meet as the premises will be opened for Sunday gatherings.
Phase 3 – Security/Safety Measure in Place
Indicator: The necessary security and safety measures are in place to allow groups to meet outside of office hours.
Reaching phase 3, the necessary security/safety measures are in place, which will allow groups to gather outside of office hours (e.g., evenings). UFW continues to be in support of allowing groups to gather and use their facilities. However, the requirement to provide additional security and safety seems feasible and will be recognized in the future.
Summary
UFW’s three-phase approach to the reopening process is based on the currently available information regarding the Covid-19 development. Changes as to this approach can occur at any time and require some significant adjustments to the initially envisioned plan. UFW’s goal is to keep everyone safe while recognizing the desire to gather in person. We will do our best and due diligence to maintain the necessary balance to accommodate all.
